UPDATE: September 22, 2000. The project moves
forward. I bought a rotating sander. Does a better job than a rectangular
one. Started sanding down the roof to prime it. I also repaired the drivers
floor, and had to mig weld in some new seat supports. I installed new seatbelts
purchased from Andover Restraints
(www. andoauto.com). These are the same belts
that would be on a 74 or later Torino. Now I feel safe driving the beast.
I put in a new carpet, but I'll have to purchase a proper ACC carpet. For
now it's OK the way it is.
I still have to replace the stereo, and re-wire
the speakers. I'll do a little more rustproofing before it goes away for
storage in October. The car drives well, and anyone wanting to undertake
a restoration project such as this, it's best to find a car that can be
driven. Otherwise, it's just one more piece of junk sitting on the driveway.
For the hell of it, last time I was priming
the car, I had some left over primer in the gun. So, I masked off the "swoosh"
of the Starsky stripe on the rear of the car by eye. I will post some pics
of the result, which isn't bad at all!. Almost makes me think there's hope
that this project will work out.
